There were parts of this episode I had to watch filtered through my fingers. EWW.

  1. Okay, let’s just get this out of the way right now: fuck all y’all, I loved Bela. I could go off about how fangirls whine about there being no strong female characters on this show and then when one shows up that a) gets a lot of screen time and b) is not a demon’s meat jumpsuit, they get a hateboner the size of Paraguay over her–but that’s another rant for another time. The point here is that I fucking loved Bela, sure, sometimes that was more like “loved to hate Bela,” but she was an awesome fucking character and that was a shitty, shitty, shitty way to kill her off. I would go so far to say that’s right up on par with Ash’s death as far as shittiness goes. Fuck you, Kripke. Just fuck you.
  2. *breathe* Anyway. Who’s seen Fullmetal Alchemist? Who didn’t keep mentally calling Dr. Immortal “Tucker” or thinking about Equivalent Exchange or homonculi or waiting for Dr. Immortal to hack up a glowing red rock? Yeah, right, put your hand down. It’s okay to admit it. Nobody will mock you. …much.
  3. I like Rufus. And the drunker he got, the more I liked him.
  4. I died laughing at Sam being amused about grossing Dean out, mostly because that is spot-on with my stupid personal fanon about Dean having Issues with gross things and food. “Baby, I can’t stay mad at you.” *NOM*
  5. Sam, hi, would you listen to what you’re suggesting here? Do you really think Dean would want to live like that? HAVE YOU THE IDIOT BALL THIS WEEK?
  6. …apparently, Sam does have the idiot ball this week. oy.
  7. The heart thing was just gross.
  8. And don’t even get me started on the eye thing. That part of “Nightmare” way back in S1 made me whimper. I could not watch the eye transplant bit in Minority Report. I cringe thinking about people in the Year Zero universe shooting Opal into their eyes. Anything that deals with sharp objects approaching eyeballs, I cannot deal with. LEAVE SAM’S EYEBALL ALONE, JESUS GOD D:
  9. Lilith holds the contract. WOW WHAT A SURPRISE. …okay, really, mostly I’m still just pissed off and bitter about the whole “O BTW BELA MADE A DEAL AND SHE’S GONNA DIE TONIGHT K?” thing. Yes, we knew Bela killed someone in her family thanks to the ghost ship thing, and sure, we figured there had to be a really good reason for stealing the Colt other than “it’s there,” but COME ON WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT. >:(

1. IAWTC. Admittedly, I didn't like her as much as Ruby at first, but her magnificent bitchery grew on me. You know how people whine about how she made Sam and Dean look stupid? I liked that about her. Don't get me wrong, I love the boys, and she was rather hard-hearted and mercenary towards them -- but she was so GOOD at it. She was a master at fucking with them for her own purposes, and I had to admire that. There's just never really been a recurring female character who was in that kind of position on this show, unless you count said demons wearing human meatsuits. And all signs pointed toward her having an interesting backstory on top of that! But they barely even did anything with it in the end.

So yeah, that was a lame way to send her off. :( It just felt like it came out of nowhere. I somehow doubt we're going to be seeing her come back as an awesome demon chick either, since interviews with Kripke make it sound like the "negative fan response" was one of the biggest reasons they had for getting rid of her. Boo.

3. Me too! Even if I couldn't stop calling him "X."

7. It's a reflection of my recent hospital stay that THE BEEPING PULSE-MEASURING THING ON HIS WRIST THAT KEPT GOING HIGHER AND HIGHER was the worst thing for me in that scene. I was hiding my eyes and making strangled squeaking noises. D:

Okay, I haven't been reading Kripke interviews for fear of spoilers, but... ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?

Goddammit, fangirls. THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS. >:(

Well, he doesn't come right out and say it, but it sounded to me like the fan response was a pretty major factor. There've been a few mentions of the interviews over on [ profile] spn_bela, like the one quoted here ( I could just be reading too much into it all, but the hasty and sloppy way she was written off, his obvious awareness of the fan hate, and the fact that he says he likes the character but didn't stand behind her all that strongly in the interviews? I dunno. It makes me wonder.

I like that he listens to his fans, I really do. I just hope he doesn't listen to the ones who want the show to be a No Vagina Zone.

I agree with this whole post. Man, I cried when Bela died. I'm so lame. XD

Man, the worst part is, the Bela-making-a-deal thing had potential for awesome even if it still meant she bought the farm, but GODDAMN you do not just drop something like that on our heads in one episode, and you sure as hell don't turn a character who's basically been made of badass all season into a big old weepy whiny ball of "OH NOES HELP ME I AM SO SCARED AND ALSO A GIRL ;_;" just like that. It was like MY DETH IZ PASTEDE ON YAY.

Yeah, it was a little 'OH SHITS OUT OF TIME TO WRITE OUT BELA'. The only good thing I saw coming from it was that it actually made the demons seem universally evil; preying on a ten-year-old who's being molested is low. I cried harder 'cause that's one of my triggers, I'm sure, but up until now, it seems to me that Fandom Consensus is that Ruby is some sort of Friendly Demon and Lilith and the Demons of the Week are the only ones to watch out for. Bleh.
